Hi guys, long time I know, and I know you definitely missed me!
So I actually have been really busy with work and trying to save up to go to Turkey, and lodging form after form to bring my mother in law back here! My grandma hasn't been too well of late so after work I go there and check up on her and come home and sleep and repeat the process all over again. I applied to be downgraded to casual work just because I feel like I don't get enough time with my partner, and I don't have enough time to cook or clean as much as I'd like to.
Anyway I have 2 weeks off so I'm quite happy.
As for crafting, I haven't done much, I still have 2 orders to complete but theres no rush on them thank god haha.
I have some new things up on Etsy so go check them out!!
You can check them out by clicking (HERE) (HERE) (HERE) and finally (HERE)

I found things in a suitcase...IN A SUIT CASE.
5:38 PM 0 Comments crochet, crochet lace, igne oyasi, orders, oya, oya flowers, sample, scarf, turkey, turkish lace, yazma
I've been with my partner in this house for 2 years. He failed to inform me however that his mother had left suitcases here in the cupboard in the spare bedroom. I practically tripped over the coffee table in an attempt to get there A.S.A.P. Anyway I found some goodies inside: 2 crochet oyas; one the size of a scarf, and one thats just a sample about 50cm long. I also found some white nylon thread (which i was in need of) and some beading thread. So I was quite happy.
In other news I finished the 50 samples order for my friend over in Utah, which didnt take me long, but trying to remember them all was a pain. I included some plastic rings for her aswel, as she was cutting tubing for a fish tank to use!
I also have 2 orders left for the same person, around 20 or so (I've written it down) flowers with leaves, and a scarf also, but I haven't been working on either of them the past week because alot has been going on family wise and my grandmother God bless her soul, hasn't been well and had a fall last week. So I've been there looking after her. Anyway I was told that I don't have to rush, as she doesnt need the flowers for 10 or so months, and the scarf can be done whenever.
Ramadan is 3 or 4 days away now, I say 3 or 4 because every year everyone has no idea what day it is because...well...I don't actually know. We have a calendar that tells us, but then one priest will say this and another priest will say that and then everyone gets confused. Anyway this year for Ramadan, I thought I'd send my partners mother some scarves so she can show them off to her neighbours. She doesn't fast anymore because she has diabetes, and the rules are if you're sick or have to take medication, or have to eat, then you don't fast. So I'm pretty sure she'll be happy with this scarf. I took a picture of one of the motifs, not the whole scarf, but I will when I finish it (which hopefully is this week)
Its a pretty easy motif, but because I've been busy with the orders and my grandmother, I havent had time to get back to it. At the moment I'm on the 3rd side, so I really should get my butt into gear and finish it so I can go back to my friends orders or she might think I'm neglecting her haha.
I might also pick another scarf to send to her, I think just sending one scarf is a waste of postage . So I'll pick one out that hasnt sold and send it to her.
Thanks for reading!
Peace x

I've also included some photos of lace that was given to me by my partners mother. This lace is pretty special to me because she had made all that stuff for her own trousseau before she got married, and now she's passed it on to me :) So i've included a caption under each photo of what things are etc. So until the next blog...Stay safe!!

Where did I go??

Well well well hello all 70 of you! Its been a while since I have blogged, and for good reason- I've had some orders! First off I have this order (that needs to be finished by the 8th of July) for a lady in my area with 3 children and one on the way (obviously she's busier than I am!) So she asked for all this baby stuff, and some turkish slippers and apparently shes going to make me a millionaire...we can only hope. I have no photos of what I have made for her but I promise I'll upload some after I've finished.
Another 2 of the orders came from the same person, a lovely friend of mine who lives all the way over in Utah who wants an Igne oyasi scarf (more specifically a scarf with EFE oya on it- which are huge sun like disks) and a pack of large and small oya flowers and some leaves for an upcoming project she has.
So I'm extremely happy I have these orders, but sheesh I'm flat out!
As of late also I have uploaded some patterns to ravelry- which you can find HERE - I'm officially a "designer" woohoo!
I have also uploaded 2 new scarves onto Etsy which you can find HERE and HERE

New bits!
5:58 PM 0 Comments cravate, crochet, doily, foulard, igne oyasi, Lif, oya, scarf, Tatting, Turkish washcloth
So its been like a month since I've done any blogging, etsy-ing, facebooking or anything. I've just been really really busy- but I see I've gathered a few more minions, and had outstanding hits on my tutorials. So well done to me. I haven't been making much since I've been so busy, but I did make a tatted doily, which is small but I'm really happy with it. I found the pattern online and decided to give it a go, and I only made one mistake which you cant notice anyway so I'm very happy with myself. I also made some other thingies for etsy which I hope you guys will like...look below for photos and descriptions!
So I hope you'll all go check out my etsy page and my facebook page- maybe you can even like me!
Cheers x
My tatted doily with variegated thread. |
Lilac coloured foulard/cravat/neckscarf with lilac and yellow oya |
I really like how the yellow brings out the purple |
This is what I call a "fake" doily..the picture below shows why haha, this is Oya with a crocheted centre with gold thread, and then white nylon thread. |
In Turkey these are called vitrin takimi but usually have 4 motifs at the top, I just made mine with 3 and I think it looks great under this picture of a whirling dervish I have. |
Another Turkish washcloth |

Lets make a bead oya TOGETHER!
1:10 AM 4 Comments Bead oya tutorial, Beads, crochet, instructions, lace, oya lace instruction, turkish
So I dont make many tutorials but I thought I would do this one just for
the bead oya lovers out there. I will be divulging into the many uses
of the oya made popular by Adele Recklies on her website which teaches
what she has simply named "oya stitch" which I know to be Yillan Kemigi
or Snakes Bone oya, which originated in my mother in laws home city of Konya in Turkey. This oya can be made simply as it is and attached
to a scarf, or can have more complicated designs where the "snakes bone"
acts as a sort of band that holds the rest of the oya. Today I will be
showing you a basic tutorial simply called "eyebrow." My mother in law taught me this oya, and its really simple and beautiful to make. To achieve the best results, I
suggest becoming familiar with the yillan kemigi oya before beginning
this tutorial, as I have simple pictures and captions to explain what to
do. You can find the tutorial HERE Now I know there are some people out there who will disregard what I'm about to say, but I'd appreciate if you have a little respect and not post these instructions to your website, blog, anything without linking BACK to me. I've taken the time to teach you something, atleast be kind enough to acknowledge the person who taught you. Thankyou :) |
Chain one, take one bead chain one. |
Go into the 1st ch and sc, slide another bead down close it and ch 1 |
Go into bead and sc, slide down bead and ch 1, turn and repeat |
This is how Yillan Kemigi is formed, Now for the "eyebrow" part... |
Ch 8, sc into left side of 2nd bead from hook. |
.
When your oya is long enough, chain 8 and dc into left side of 2nd bead from hook. Ch 6 and repeat till end. |
I hope this tutorial is to your liking. I hope you all have a lovely day!

Oya Doily- Finished!
2:12 AM 5 Comments Armenian knotted lace, crochet, igne oyasi, knotted lace, oya doily, oya lace, sehpa ortusu, tepsi ortusu, turkish doily, turkish handcraft, turkish lace
So a while back in a previous post about knitted lace doilies and the tablecloth I made thats on etsy, I also stated that I was in the middle of making a mixed crochet and Oya doily. Well, Its done! And doesn't it look mighty fine? Each has 5 rows of crochet and then 6 oya petals which are all joined to each other. I much prefer mixing crochet with oya to make doilies than starting off in the traditional way, as this takes forever and I get bored. I'll make one one day though, I always like to try things atleast once. This took me a while to complete, by the 5th motif I was getting drained, because as I said previously each petal has to be worked up individually. I'm going to put this one up on etsy sometime and see how it goes, although I should make some more in different styles for the market stall that I hope to have sometime this year!
Enjoy your day! Thanks for reading!

Its been a very busy start to the year for me, as most of you know I was
doing placement at an aged care facility and needed 120 hours completed
in order to receive my certificate. So that's out of the way for the
time being, and now all I need to do is finish 1 and a 1/2 work books
and I'm done and I'll have my certificate III in Aged care and Home and
Community Care! Excitedddd!
So thats why I haven't been blogging so much, but I have been crafting! I've made a couple more crochet oya lace scarves, some bracelets and 2 more Lif (washcloths.) I've also been playing around with beads and other things so just for the time being I'm going to post the Oya scarves, because I've put them up on ETSY so go over and have a look if you're interested!!

This Oya is called "Katmer Cicegi" I love the way it looks and I'm really proud of myself. |
This is another one of my newest oya scarves, I think I picked really good colours to go with the scarf to make it stand out. |
This one was a little bit harder but still came out really nice. |
This oya is pretty easy, but takes alot of time. The flowers are all tatted, and then crocheted on top by a chain and then added to the scarf. |
All these scarves and many more are available on my Etsy Store
