Orders, Edgings, Pretty things!

I kept my promise!  Here are a few things that I've been whipping up for the baby order I have that is due on the 8th of july.  I've also included some photos of lace that was given to me by my partners mother.  This lace is pretty special to me because she had made all that stuff for her own trousseau before she got married, and now she's passed it on to me :)  So i've included a caption under each photo of what things are etc.  So until the next blog...Stay safe!!

Top Left: Grey baby sweater, baby kufi and baby booties
Bottom Left: Baby cardigan, Top Right: Hat and jumper, bottom right:
Pants and booties.

Top left: Cardigan with solomon knot extension, Bottom left:
Sweater, Top right: Jumper, Bottom left: Small childs slippers.

These are some new patik that I made, both are knitted except for the top left ones
which are crocheted.

Ah lace :)  these are "karyola takimi" which are edgings you put around a bed.
I can't tell you how long each of them are, but they are pretty long and all hand made by my partners mother.

This photo is upside down :( more handmade edgings.

More edgings!

Some doilies

This is the table cloth my partners mother made for me.

This is the edging of the table cloth

This is my seccade (se-ja-de) which comes from the word "sajjada"
which is Arabic for "carpet" Its a prayer mat that my partners mother made for me  with cross stitched tulips
on it.  One of my most prized possessions.

Where did I go??

Well well well hello all 70 of you!  Its been a while since I have blogged, and for good reason- I've had some orders!  First off I have this order (that needs to be finished by the 8th of July) for a lady in my area with 3 children and one on the way (obviously she's busier than I am!)  So she asked for all this baby stuff, and some turkish slippers and apparently shes going to make me a millionaire...we can only hope.  I have no photos of what I have made for her but I promise I'll upload some after I've finished.

Another 2 of the orders came from the same person, a lovely friend of mine who lives all the way over in Utah who wants an Igne oyasi scarf (more specifically a scarf with EFE oya on it- which are huge sun like disks) and a pack of large and small oya flowers and some leaves for an upcoming project she has.

So I'm extremely happy I have these orders, but sheesh I'm flat out!

As of late also I have uploaded some patterns to ravelry- which you can find HERE - I'm officially a "designer" woohoo!

I have also uploaded 2 new scarves onto Etsy which you can find HERE and HERE

I finally got around to making a couple of patterns!  Theres 3 for the time being, which I completed over the weekend.  2 crochet (one bead) and a needle lace pattern all available for purchase on my Etsy store.  More to come I hope, this obviously depends on how much time I have to spare.

Each pattern includes:   Photos, Step by step instructions, A "you will need" list, and Stitches used.

The good thing is that if any of you purchase the patterns, you know how to contact me if you get confused! How greats that!?

Anyway you can find my Etsy store HERE

The newest Oya scarf

Hello proud!  I just finished the scarf today, and I ironed it and flattened out the motifs a little.  I love this scarf.  The colours go well, the motifs are cute, and overall I'm just so happy that its turned out the way it has.  This baby will be on etsy soon so don't forget to have a squizz!

Needle/Shuttle Oya- The next scarf!

Newest oya scarf I've been working on.  This time I decided to use tatted motifs as flowers.  I think theres around 20 in total, and they are attached to the needle oya.  My next post will be the finished product :)

Newest Igne Oyasi Scarf- ONE SIDE TO GO.

This is the newest oya scarf I've been working on.  I bought 3 new scarves the other day and I started on this one first.  I chose colours that don't really jump out at you when you look at it, because I know that some people don't want to wear eccentric colours, and I'll probably end up sending this scarf along with 2 others to my mother-in-law if it doesn't end up selling.  I really like the floral pattern on this scarf, and the soft subtle tones don't deserve bold colours to accompany them.  Anyway I have one more side to complete before this scarf is finished and ready to be ironed!  I should be able to finish it tomorrow night, so I'm sure there will be more photos in the next post I do.

Turkan Soray- The ultimate Turkish actress- IMMORTALZED!

Turkan Soray-  3 years ago I had no idea who she is, until I watched the movie "Sevgi Boylum Al Yazmalim" with my partner (which is his all time favourite movie ever) when I fell in love with her.  So when I was trawling my local library, I found a book on making sock dolls, and I thought "why not make a Turkan Soray doll and surprise my partner with her when he comes home from university"  So I sat down and made my 1st sock doll!  I used one sock, stuffing and different coloured quilt fabric squares.  I did a simple oya on the red scarf.  She looks a bit angry, and her nose looks a bit joan rivers but hey, it was my first time, and I think Turkan looks spectacular.

My Pinwheel Doily

So I really like anything with a pinwheel in it, especially crochet doilies!  I started this bloody thing in january, but I stashed it somewhere in my cupboard when I was cleaning and couldn't find it, but then 2 weeks ago I found it and decided to finish it.  I'm really happy with how it turned out, and I plan to put it on a new buffet that I hope to buy in the next month or two.

New bits!

So its been like a month since I've done any blogging, etsy-ing, facebooking or anything.  I've just been really really busy- but I see I've gathered a few more minions, and had outstanding hits on my tutorials.  So well done to me.  I haven't been making much since I've been so busy, but I did make a tatted doily, which is small but I'm really happy with it.  I found the pattern online and decided to give it a go, and I only made one mistake which you cant notice anyway so I'm very happy with myself.  I also made some other thingies for etsy which I hope you guys will like...look below for photos and descriptions!

My tatted doily with variegated thread.

Lilac coloured foulard/cravat/neckscarf with lilac and yellow oya

I really like how the yellow brings out the purple

This is what I call a "fake" doily..the picture below shows why haha,
this is Oya with a crocheted centre with gold thread, and then white nylon thread.

In Turkey these are called vitrin takimi but usually have 4 motifs at the top, I just made mine with 3 and I
think it looks great under this picture of a whirling dervish I have.
Another Turkish washcloth
The other Turkish washcloth

So I hope you'll all go check out my etsy page and my facebook page- maybe you can even like me!

Cheers x

Igne Oyasi Tutorial

So heres another tutorial, this time for Igne oyasi.  A simple yet pretty edging, easy enough to accomplish if you know the basics of oya.  This tutorial is step by step, any questions are welcome.

Once again I have taken the time to take these pictures, and explain what I'm doing for your benefit.  Please, link back to my profile if you in some way choose to post this tutorial on your website.  Its only fair!

Anyway on with the tutorial...
This is what we will be making today.

You will need:  2 colours nylon/polyester thread, a lighter, scissors and a sewing needle.

Make 2 zurafa (loops)

Going back on the 2nd loop make a knot

Make 4 pirpir (long loops)

Continue making zurafa (loops) 5 in total.

Going back on the 5th loop make a knot and repeat making 4 pirpir (long loops)
the above steps are repeated for the length desired.

With the 2nd colour make 3 zurafa (loops) over the 4 pirpir (long loops)

going back, knot in the 1st loop.

make 1 pirpir (long loop) in the same space

continuing forward make 2 zurafa (loops) over the 3 zurafa (loops) below.
you have now decreased. Well done haha.

Going back, make 1 pirpir (long loop) in the same space.

make 1 zurafa (loop) go back in that 1 zurafa (loop) and make 1 pirpir (long loop) in the same loop.

Make another pirpir (long loop) in the same space.

leaving a small amount of thread (enough so it doesn't distort) bridge to the 1st pirpir (long loop) on the row below
and make a knot and repeat the above steps again.

At the end cut your threads and burn them, I burn them so they dont unravel, but sometimes they leave black burnt bits but its up to you i suppose.

And so this is the tutorial!  Thanks for reading! x
