So I got all creative today, and why not right? I mean this week the only day I have off from placement is Wednesday, and I dont think I'll be coming home to do my hand craft, I think I'll be coming home and sleeping lol.  So here they are, I whipped them up and now theyre on my etsy shop (which you can find here)  The last ones are tatted.  I have heaps more tatted earrings but theyre with my friends niece (remember I told you I gave some things to her to see if she could sell them at the stalls? yeah well I'm still waiting for them back lol)

So yeah, check out my store, tell your friends!  Thanks alot for reading my blog as always, and I'll blog ya soon!

Hi, I'm trying to make some oya flowers, using Altin Basak Kirlanginc thread. And it makes me mad as the thread is so slippery that all my knots unwind and loosen so quickly. I pull the thread as hard as I can, but everything looks a disaster after an hour or so. And they say it is a good oya thread, it is all polyester. Maybe there are better threads? Or I should pull the thread still harder? :(

Hi Piwonia. If the thread is polyester thread (especially altin basak) it shouldnt be "slippery" at all. Before you begin to make knots, i suggest stretching the thread just a little bit which you can feel when you do it. This will ensure that you can go faster and dont have to worry about it getting knotted in the wrong place. I think if your knots unwind, then you're doing it wrong. Make sure you're wrapping it the right way, please refer to the videos I have on youtube as these may offer you some more help. Hope this has shead some light on your problem. Enjoy your day! :)

Thank you for replying so soon, especially on the New Year morning :) Sure I will have another look at the videos. You can see here

they way I make the knots - with the exception that now I wind the thread twice around the needle, which I have learnt from Turkish instructions. The link leads to a course of the knotted lace that I have made for my Polish friends, but I have always used cotton thread.

Sorry for the mistake - I thought you are from the US, not from Australia, so I mixed up the time zones :D
Have a nice new day!

oh no haha im definitely not a morning person at all, so you'll hardly find me on anything before 12pm haha. I've looked through the pictures that you have, your work is actually not bad at all, however i noticed from an earlier comment by you that you wanted to make flowers. Let me just say its not something I would suggest you jump into straight away. There is a huge difference between doing flat work and doilies (like you're doing) and making 3 dimensional flowers. I mean its not very often I make them either because its just too time consuming, and if I was to make a scarf with 3d flowers on it (which I have before) the chances of me selling it for the price its worth is minimal. However if its just for you personally then i suppose thats ok, but yeah I suggest you take your time with the flowers! And happy new year to you, I wish you all the best for 2012!

Well, I sometimes sell small things, but they are mostly tatted earrings. I make knotted lace for my own pleasure. The technique is almost totally unknown in Poland, but I am a fanatic of such things, and the flowers are just lovely. Sometimes you see something new and say: I have to try it! My only source on the knotted lace have been the two books by Elena Dickson, which have been published in Poland, but now I have found some instructions on making flowers in the Internet. I have made some more motifs and will wait to see if the knots get loose too...
