The craft fair!!

So first off, I know i promised pictures, but the nazis wouldnt let me lol.
I'm only writting a short description of the craft fair otherwise I'll be here all day.

1) Mostly patchwork and quilting- no lace stuff (hand made anyway)
2) Heaps of old women with walking frames and whatnot, I'm still pissed at the lady who thought she could push passed me because she had a walker, i DONT THINK SO.
3) Alot of bead places, suprinsingly very cheap
4) Wool was unbelievably expensive, and people there seem to have a thing for this ugly wool that makes some ugly scarf.
5) 16 dollar entry
6) I bought: beads, a cross stitch pattern and some lovely lovely loveeeeely scarves from the most hilarious Chinese woman I've ever met in my life.

Thats all!

Why do i feel soooo ill?

So for the past 2 days, ive been waking up with the worst migraine and neckpain and then i attempt to overdose on panadol just to ease the pain.  My partner apparently thinks its because i sleep like a retard, but i dont believe him lol.  Today I started on the bohca (the napsack) for the baby items.  I decided to do a oya edging called nunuklu or "snail." Of course it has no symbolic meaning towards the birth of a child, it just looks nice.  I've done about 3/4 of it in one day and my hands are killing me so im really proud of myself.  I'll be sure to post when it's finished.

On another note ramadans around the corner and I can't wait.  Theres not a year in the past...well...since I can remember, that I haven't fasted ramadan.  Ramadan for those of you who don't know is a month long fasting from food and drink during the day and the holiest month on the Islamic calendar.  Its a time of reflection and rememberance and giving to those in the world who aren't as lucky as we are.  This also means that I'll probably end up getting more work done since i wont be going out much, or this could work the other way where I'm always out (because generally in ramadan you go and eat at everyone elses house, or you invite a shit load of people for like a feast at your house)  so we'll see how that pans out

Hope everyone who reads this is well, and feeling better than I am :/

Oh i think we're going to the craft market tomorrow- hello excited? i say yes!

Peace!

Craft Fair!!!

So I was making my baby blanket watching tv and on comes a commercial about the Craft Fair at the exhibition building in the city.  I practically fell from my chair and turned the volume up to like 89 on the tv, so now I'm partially deaf lol.  The fair boasts about many workshops and shopping (which is a bonus for me) and key craftspeople who are supposedly well known in the crafting community (I have no idea who they are.)  So my partners going to take me and I'm going to buy buy buy and take photos :)  oh so excited.

The next part of the baby stuff..

So now after finishing ten wondorous hats (and no reply from the person who contacted me as yet- I mean even if they dont get back to me I have a shitload of baby stuff lol, well- kinda) I decided to make a baby blanket for them aswel.  I started off with a blue wool blend yarn for the 1st row (not including the chain) and then a yellow LALLO filatura di crosa baby (cotton/Polyamid/Viscose blend) yarn for the remaining rows- so therefore the border will be dark blue.  However I suppose this blanket could be used for a girl or a boy, lets not assume that blue is for boys and pink for girls, we're not in the 1300s any more lol.  So anyway i'll post photos soon.

Peace!

Just a few tatting patterns..

Oh blogging how I have missed you

It feels like a lifetime since I blogged, and its for good reason.  I've been working on an order for someone who contacted me through my email (couchcrochetcrumbs@gmail.com) who requested baby items (specifically hats and booties, although I haven't started on the booties yet) I haven't taken photos of all the hats I've made yet, so bare with me and I'll upload them sometime this week.

Its been pretty average weather, for melbournes standards anyway, friday was my grandmas birthday she turned 80! shes so cute, my aunties wanted to buy KFC for her instead of cooking but my grandma being my grandma had to put on a buffet and cooked like 70 different things for her own birthday lol, shes such a character.

Anyway I'll post photos this week

Stay safe bloggeroonies!

2 down, 47 to go!

The only thing i dont like about this motif is the edging, its so annoying having to do six stitches in the one but i guess when joined it looks really nice.  Im using a .75 crochet hook, and Oren Bayan thread.  I joined it by doing the join as you go method which is alot easier than sewing it later on.  As you all well know it will look better when its finished and blocked so 2 down 47 to go, wish me luck!!

Hoarding...

Hoarding time...so today we went to spotlight (normally i dont like spotlight but they apparently had a sale on wool and i needed grey wool for my blanket lol) i spent about 2 hours going through everything just to make sure i didnt miss anything..For all you non-australians reading this blog, now you can see how expensive everything is with the photos I took.  I got about 10 balls of yarn an a couple of packets off earring things and some tear drop beads aswell.

The mission...

Ok so I'm using this blog to make me finish larger items, which I'm hoping will work to my advantage lol.  I am setting myself the goal of making a tablecloth in under a month with 49 motifs of 10 rows.  I hope to do 12 per week so realistically I'm not doing anything that will bore me, because amongst those motifs I can finish my 2 scarves and by then I'm sure I'll have more wool to finish my blanket.  So the challenge begins blogger, I've done one motif already, 11 to go for this week.  I'll keep you all posted on my progress.

Happy Blogging!

The blanket update...

Sadly, I ran out of wool LOL.  Which is actually great because now I have to go back and get some more, and which also means that I'll be craft hoarding again haha.  I'm up to the 20th row of the blanket, so it won't be so hard to go and get some grey and black wool, but if I'm to go by myself, because I don't drive- It will be a mission!  The weather has been kinda crazy recently, we had like gail force winds the other day and even a treamor at 11:30 this morning, thankfully I made it through (you couldnt even feel it where I live lol)  so everythings good!  About to go to bed because I just finished some more of my 7 projects lol.

Happy blogging bloggeroonies!

My work on the scarves from Turkey!

So these are the two oya edgings i'm working on at the moment, the first one with the flower beads that were sent from Turkey (i spoke about these in an earlier post) and the second a crochet oya with that lovely flower.  I'll post photos of the finished products when they are that indeed- finished!!  I have to remember to work on one thing at a time and not 70 lol.

This is igne oyasi but with beads, I use the simple zurafa and then i thread beads and knot it in place.

This oya has 3 rows, the first 2 green and the last the pink.

Its the start of the weekend, kind of..

So as you should all know by now- I'm a craft hoarder lol, and it just so happens that lincraft (the superior to spotlight by far) is having a 30% off sale, so of course the first thing I did was make my partner take me there (he's so great) unfortunately they weren't having a wool sale so i was pretty annoyed that i couldn't pick myself up some cheap yarn.  I asked some hippy bitch that worked there why it was so expensive and she began to tell me how sheep need to be fed and shorn and all this other crap to which i kinda just walked away from (i so couldn't be bothered- i had a time limit!) So most of the wool that i've seen in australia isnt even made here..its imported from countries that have cheap cheap cheap wool (like turkey) so i'm thinking- if australia is like so well known for like farming and sheep and all that other crap- wheres our sheeps' wool going? does it go overseas, get spun and dyed and then shipped back here? anyway i think this is stupid and think that we need cheaper yarn.  So anyway back to what I bought today- I bought some teardrop beads for the tatted earrings, bought some DMC thread for my cross stitch (whenever I get around to it) and in my mind i bought a whole load of other crap, but i got in trouble because i have like 2 closets full of things lol.  Anyway at the moment im still working on my blanket, and a scarf, and some edgings, the blanket is up to row 18 i think, yesterday i hardly did any craft work: i cooked like allllll day.  I made like these lebanese pastries and bamia (which is like an okra stew kinda thing) but the pastry is like the most draining thing it took like 5 hours to actually get ready and then ontop of that comes baking- joy.  So hope you all who follow/read this blog have been having a good week, and i'll blog you soon!

Cheers.

The blanket...the friggin blanket.

So now I wonder why I wanted to make it lol.  I'm thinking to myself now:  Ok you have blankets already, you're just making it for the hell of it.  YES. I suppose its another thing to put in my box of goodies, and ontop of that I'm in my 13th round so I'm really into the whole going round and round business at the moment.  Its grey and black, and I shall post photos soon!

Peace xx

Another video

Ok so remember how I told you guys that I'd teach you how to do the motif in one of my blogs? If not look at the pictures of the stuff from the net, not the stuff I've done and you'll understand which motif I'm talking about.

Anyway here it is on youtube:  Oya lace "pirpir" motif

What am I working on?

The answer to this question is 17 things. lol.  I was so happy to get the flower shaped beads, so I'm doing another beaded scarf, of which I'll post really soon.  Then I decided that because I felt cold, that I should make an afghan, weird much? So I crocheted up a 8 or 10 inch square and I'm deciding whether I like it or not...So so picky lol.  Haven't had time to work on any of my 3 lace projects (1 table runner, 1 table cloth and some other thing I can't even find) but I've got plenty of time to do it considering our weather at the moment is shit and I wouldnt dare go outside in fear of getting frostbite and dying, well thats a bit exaggerative but oh well lol.

Blog ya later xx

My package came at 11 am!

So remember how I told you that my partners mother is sending me a parcel? Well today it came and its lucky that the delivery man hung around or we would have had to drive to glenroy to pick it up, not that glenroy is far, its just draining and a very gloomy day.

So in my package were scarves (without oya) and 2 oya scarves, 12 pairs of Patik or Slippers, around 5 to 6 beads (mind you the beads in turkey all come on strings, not in packets) A poncho/shawl for my partners sister and some nylon thread.  Uploading photos later! Stay tuned

Craft Shopping

I went into the city today to do some craft shopping (I'm such a hoarder) because my friend messaged me that there was a sale on at some store that I cant remember the name of, so I went in to have a look, and even though they were having a sale, everything was still soooo expensive.  I was told that all or most of the things they had were imported, but the funny thing is that these things are cheaper overseas.  This backs up my reason of only buying from overseas.  Turkeys prices for craft supplies are fabulous and I'm glad I have someone to send me things when I need them, otherwise I just find them on ebay.  Its a bit annoying waiting for 2 weeks, but I'd rather pay less and be patient than be impulsive and be charged out the ass lol.

So I bought some DMC cross stitch cotton and some cross stitch things, the wool was too expensive, and i dont know anyone who wears "llama wool' soo yeah

Hope you all had a good day and thanks for reading my blog once again!

The stupid bitch on Etsy chat who told me that Australians were "ill mannered and mysogenists"

This dumb bitch tried to tell me that Australians are ill mannered andmysogenists, just because she was complaining about another user being a guy and doing hand craft, so me and my big mouth stepped in to give her a piece of my mind and it turns out that shes a hippy that sells organic herbs and god knows what, to which I told her she needed to stop smoking otherwise her judgement would be clouded further.

Does it really matter if a man can do handcraft? Does it make any difference? Who is to say that a man cant be just as precise and patient as a woman can?

Sorry, this bitch just got on my nerves.

Rain Rain GO AWAY

Its gloomy and raining here in good old Melbourne.  I guess this could be good for getting ahead in some of my projects, however this weather makes me feel lazy and just want to watch movies with the partner lol.  Sooo things that are on the go are the oya edgings, as I just found out that my mother in law is sending some scarves from turkey (because I cant find ones that I actually like here) and I'm so excited, more beads are being sent aswel aswel as some Patik or slippers.  Can't wait for the package, I'm all excited lol.  Having left over lasagne tonight for dinner, I'm so not cooking lol.  Anywayyy back to work, Happy Blogging!

Armenian Knotted Lace (Which is really just OYA but i suppose everyone wants a piece of this beauty)

These are a few pages from the Priscilla Armenian (yeah ok) Lace Book that I thought I'd share to those who want to learn a little bit more by reading the instructions.  Just basic things but if it helps anyone..

Cemberimde Gul Oya..

Haven't had much time to do things today, busy cooking and cleaning.  Might do some shuttle work and try to get my edging for the scarf a bit longer, i seem to always have like 20 things on the go and go back and forth between them until one of them finishes, and then i look at it for 40 minutes looking for mistakes and admiring it lol, such a loser.  I really want to get back to making my centrepieces and table cloth thats 2 motifs in progress, but im sort of too busy with all my oya to be doing that at the moment.  I have a friend who told her sister inlaw to take some of the scarves to the local mosques (yes, we're muslim) and try to sell them there, and the other oya things like the earrings etc that I've made she'll take along with her and her craft groups stuff to markets to try and sell.  I had some items up on etsy about 3 months ago but no one seemed to want to buy anything- Americans dont seem to want to buy from Australians lol but oh well, I suppose if anyone on here wants my things I wouldnt mind putting it up on etsy for you, just let me know and we'll sort it out.  Its nearly 2am and I'm back to my work, happy blogging!

Other things...

This section is for my other creations and other things ive come into posession of.

The table cloth from my mother in law, lovely colours and lacework, I hope one day to complete something of the same size.

Knitted turkish slippers made by my mother in law, I hate knittting and thinks it takes too long, but these are gorgeous, but they dont fit my feet lol

Handbag made by my mother in law.  This made my eyes pop out of my head when i first saw it.

My paper raffia clutch, it was more of a protocol than anything but a few people I've shown said that its actually really nice, i found it really difficult to crochet with paper raffia, the tension was a bit off and really hard to pull stitches through.  The inside is covered with material to match.

My crochet slippers, fabulous for winter! these are easy to crochet and pretty quick, you could use another granny square pattern, but i just used the basic one that i know.

My 1st two oya flower protocols, I made these about a year ago and i look back and laugh at how sloppy my work was and how i couldnt get some of the stitches right, but with practice comes a better product.  Its nice to look back at past work and compare where you were and where you are now.

My baby jumper with butterfly appliques, this is my own pattern.  Its worked all in HDC and i made this around a year ago aswel.

My crochet centrepiece, this took me 5 days to make and i can tell you i was jumping over tables when i'd finished it because it came to a point where it was just so draining to make.
